The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries releases a white paper every year. In this paper, there are some topics and this year has two.
https://www.maff.go.jp/j/wpaper/w_maff/r1/attach/pdf/index-1.pdfTopic 1 is New Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas. Topic 2 is Growing Empowerment of Women Farmers.
Today I focus on topic 1, Food self-sufficiency ratio targets in New Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas.
The basic plan is built up every five year. I checked the 2015 and 2020 version.
Food self-sufficiency ratio targets in the basic plan in 2020
- [Calorie supply basis] 37% (2018 result) → 45%(2030 target)
- [Production value basis] 66% (2018 result) → 75%(2030 target)
Food self-sufficiency ratio targets in the basic plan in 2015
- [Calorie supply basis] 39% (2013 result) → 45%(2027 target)
- [Production value basis] 65% (2013 result) → 73%(2027 target)
It means
- [Calorie supply basis] 39% (2013 result) → 37% (2018 result)
- [Production value basis] 65% (2013 result) → 66% (2018 result)
Are targets too high considering the results?
I will show the ministry’s strategy next time.
