Domestic wine in Japan

Nowadays, wine made from domestic grape is popular in Japan.
Tsukuba is the city located north 60 km from Tokyo, some winery has been opened.

I visited one winery. The owner used to a researcher at a public institute but started to grow wine grape before retirement, 60 years old. He decided to start it because he wants to enjoy his life until 90 years.

In Japan, winery owners have to get a national governmental license. One of the terms to get license, a winery owner have to brew wine more than 6000 liters.
However, his winery is small and only brews 2000 liters. The city got a special permission from the national government and helped him to get the license for brewing wine.
